Class Descriptions


Below is a brief description of the FALL classes being offered at Young Musicians Idaho. Classes will start September 2nd and go till December 17th (No classes the week of November 24-28).   If you have more than one child in the same class you only need one set of class materials.  Classes must have a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 10 children. 

Family Music for Babies (Swing and Sway) (Newborns -16 months)
4 month session
Swing and Sway
Sing, bounce, rock, and dance to songs from around the world
  • Swing and sway to Ping Pong Samba from the Carribbean
  • Rock to songs from South America and Scotland
  • Bounce to Comin' Round the Mountain
  • Dance to the Scottish Quadrille
  • Finger Play to Fee, Fie, Foe, Fum
  • And many more

All babies are born with an aptitude for music. But research shows that their aptitude diminishes if it is not nurtured. The best way to nurture a child's music aptitude is through active music making. By singing and dancing for and with our children in a variety of tonalities, meters and styles we are helping our children reach their full music potential.

This class offers adults the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting, experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his or her curiosity about music. By singing, dancing, bouncing, and rocking, the child's music aptitude is being carefully nurtured, laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production, and aural discrimination.

Family Music (My Day) (1 - 3 years)

My Day
Discover the joy involved with everyday activites as we put them to music.  Your child will find enjoyment in washing their hands, getting ready for the day, eating time, playtime and worktime.    They especially love doing these activities with a loving caregiver by their side.

Benefits of Music Class for Young children:
  • Early exposure to music in a stimulating environment promotes optimal development physically, emotionally, socially, spiritually and intellectually.
  • Unlock the child's inborn musical abililtes.
  • Music improves overall development, decreases learning problems, and enhances brain function.
  • Nuture the bond between caregiver and child.  Positive contact between a caring adult and child is vital for a child's healthy development.

My Day is part of the Family Music, toddler program.  Singing, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments in class will bring you delightful activites to bridge the natural connection between music and movement, and develop your child's musical aptitude and aural abilities.

Nature's Music (Ages 3 - 6 1/2)

Nature's Music
 
Come join us as we learn about the many sounds and movements of Nature.  This course is focused around the various sounds we hear in nature and the many things seen and unseen in our environment.

Activities Include
  • Singing, moving and making music
  • Brief storytime
  • Musical activities & listening
  • Basic Instrument playing
  • Echoing Rhythm patterns

The Nature's Music class features a rich collection of songs and chants.  Most of the songs in the collection are folksongs and seek to introduce a new generation to the roots of our musical heritage.
