All babies are born with an aptitude for music. But research shows that their aptitude diminishes if it is not nurtured. The best way to nurture a child's music aptitude is through active music making. By singing and dancing for and with our children in a variety of tonalities, meters and styles we are helping our children reach their full music potential.

This class offers adults the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting, experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his or her curiosity about music. By singing, dancing, bouncing, and rocking, the child's music aptitude is being carefully nurtured, laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production, and aural discrimination.

We invite you to play with music while we make New Friends together.  This series features a rich collection of songs and chants.  Most of the songs are folksongs that will introduce a new generation to the roots of our musical heritage.   

Dance and Play Instruments together to familiar and new songs:

• Baa, Baa, Black Sheep
• Here Comes a Bluebird
• I See The Moon
• Mouse, Mousie
• I'm a LIttle Teapot

Primary goals of New Friends is to:

• establish a relationship between the child and music
• Nuture the bond between parent and child through music
• help the parents play musically with their child, and
• establish a foundation for lifelong music-learning and joy in musical play. 

New Friends is part of the Family Music, toddler program.  Singing, moving, dancing, listening, and playing simple instruments in class will bring you delightful activites to bridge the natural connection between music and movement, and develop your child's musical aptitude and aural abilities.

Come Join us as we play in the snow, listen to a screeching owl, take a trip to the circus, and enjoy the Winter/Spring season.

The cycle of seasons features a rich collection of songs and chants.  Most of the songs in the collection are folksongs and seek to introduce a new generation to the roots of our musical heritage.  The songs selected come from numerous countries and share the histories of many cultures.
